In May 2025 I was engaged by MISCO to give an training on leadership, emotional intelligence and managing conflicts in organisations to the management of Amino Chemicals Malta.

In today's fast-paced and dynamic work environments, organizations are increasingly reliant on highly intelligent and skilled employees to drive innovation and productivity. However, the very attributes that make these individuals exceptional—such as strong opinions, assertiveness, and a high degree of independence—can also lead to interpersonal conflicts and challenges in team cohesion.
1. Reason For Management Training: Handing Multiple Perspectives
Given the high-stakes environment of pharmaceutical production, different perspectives need to be evaluated and integrated quickly to ensure productivity and morale. To address this, MISCO engaged me to design and deliver a tailored Management training session aimed at equipping employees with practical tools to navigate and integrate multiple perspectives.
2. Goal: Improve Management Team Communication
Amino Chemicals sought to have management training on communications to enhance their leaders' skills in fostering clear, constructive dialogue within teams. The primary objectives were to:
Increase awareness of common types of diverse opinions.
Develop effective communication and active listening skills.
Introduce emotional intelligence in handling multiple perspectives suitable for a pharmaceutical manufacturing context.
Foster a collaborative work environment to ensure better team cohesion.
3. Design: Using Metaphors To Navigate Complexity
The training content was customized to reflect the specific challenges faced by Amino Chemicals. Key components included:
Effective Communication: Emphasizing the importance of active listening, empathy, and clear messaging in de-escalating conflicts.
Understanding Organisational Dynamics: Exploring the nature of multiple perspectives, its causes, and its impact on team dynamics.
Practical Exercises: Engaging participants in role-plays and case studies relevant to their work environment to practice listening and communication techniques.
Culture Development: having a policies and strategies to foster psychological safety to ensure people can speak and offer valid opinions.
4. The Delivery: Onsite Training
The session was conducted as a three 1-hour interactive sessions at Amino Chemicals' premises. The format combined theoretical discussions with practical exercises which facilitated peer learning and reinforced the application of concepts in real-world situations.
5. The Impact: Prioritising Effort
Post-training feedback indicated a positive shift in participants' approach to handling communication. Employees reported increased skill in prioritising what areas to give their energies and effort to whilst having a better understanding of how to prevent issues from arising.
6. Lessons Learned: Practical Takeaways for Readers
The training highlighted the importance of context-specific communication strategies. In a regulated industry like pharmaceuticals, where precision and compliance are critical the following is needed:
Tailoured Approach: highly competent and intelligent people have already been taught how to communicate. Hence the focus is on what is blocking them from reaching their ideal outcomes.
It's About Relationships: fostering an environment that encourages open communication is key in a workplace where people are so busy.
Choose battles wisely: When it comes to petty issues, a collaborating style of addressing multiple perspectives can be an overkill and wastes a lot of energy.
7. Conclusion & Call to Action
Training sessions like this are transformative experiences that could shape the way your team collaborates and leads. By investing in management training, you can cultivate stronger leaders, more engaged employees, and a workplace culture that thrives on trust and openness.
